Rayol-Canadel sur Mer

Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer is a haven of peace where happiness is preserved like a treasure.

Founded in 1925 as an extension of La Mole, this Mediterranean gem blossomed in 1949 to become an autonomous municipality. Today, three neighbourhoods—Rayol, Canadel and Pramousquier—elegantly share the 4 kilometres of coastline, nestled between hills and blue horizons.

Here, the Corniche des Maures plunges into the deep blue Mediterranean Sea and offers a unique view of the Îles d'Or.

From January to March, mimosa brightens up the landscape and adorns the Domaine du Rayol and the Jardin des Méditerranées with a thousand shades of gold. Here, species from all corners of the world converse silently, while at the Col du Canadel, the panorama opens up majestically, like an infinite canvas.

Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer, nestled between the sea and hills fragrant with mimosa, promises an enchanting stay, a suspended interlude where every moment exudes beauty.

GARDENS OF THE DOMAINE DE RAYOL

A 20-hectare protected natural area, owned by the Conservatoire du Littoral, at the foot of the Massif des Maures and opposite the Iles d'Hyères, in the Var département, between Le Lavandou and Saint-Tropez. Landscape architect Gilles Clément has designed the Jardin des Méditerranées, an invitation to travel through the world's Mediterranean landscapes and landscapes with more arid or subtropical climates. To discover this garden is to feel some of the emotions experienced by a botanical explorer travelling the planet!

ORGANISED VISITS TO THE DOMAINE DU RAYOL

Guided tours are available every day of the year, and are included in the price of admission. Accessible and friendly, they give you a new perspective on gardening and the plant world.

WALKS ON THE GREENWAY (ON FOOT OR BY BIKE)

The greenway is the old railway line that runs through the entire municipality. This extremely easy route for pedestrians and cyclists offers wonderful views. It allows you to discover the coastline, rocks, flora, the Îles d'Or and beautiful residences.

THE BEACHES

Five sandy beaches await you: two in Rayol (Rayol East and Rayol West), two in Canadel (Canadel East and Canadel West) and one in Pramousquier. Pramousquier beach is divided into two parts by a small stream called ‘La Foulade’, which marks the boundary between the municipalities of Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer and Le Lavandou.

Don't hesitate to come and admire them, and why not take a dip in the crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean?

THE MONUMENTAL STAIRCASE AND THE PATEC

A monumental stone staircase with around 900 steps will take you to the Rayol district. It was built using local schist and decorated with Provençal terracotta jars filled with flowers. From the beaches of Le Rayol to the flag (the highest point in the commune at 316m), you will discover our village. Splendid views await you. Halfway up, you will see the Patec, our pretty circular pergola made of reinforced concrete and schist.

The staircases are listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments by order of 14 December 1989.

THE VIEW FROM THE CANADEL PASS

The Col du Canadel offers one of the most beautiful views, with the sea and the Îles d'Or as a backdrop.

An orientation table awaits you there, offering a 360° panoramic view.

The Stele of the African Commandos and the National Necropolis

Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer was the first municipality to be liberated during the Provence landings on 14 August 1944. A memorial cemetery is located alongside the RD559 road.

There are also two steles (military symbols) and a chapel (the Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary).

The first memorial stone on the RD559 in the bend overlooking Canadel beach is called the commando memorial stone.

The second stele, known as the Landing Monument, is located near the beaches of Canadel.
